Everyday Eye Look!

Here's a look I wore over the weekend to a friends house warming party. It's simple and natural with a little bit of smoke on the outer corners!

1 Apply foundation all over and concealer in areas of concern (under the eyes, around the nose, on any blemishes). Set with translucent powder.
2 Fill in your brows following it's natural shape with a light brow powder.
3 Blend bronzer through the back of the cheeks, temples, and hairline. Apply a bronzed peachy blush to the apples of the cheeks to keep the theme of a warm glow.
4 Pat eyeshadow primer all over the lid and apply a mid toned brown (close to your skin tone) from lashline to crease.
5 Highlight the brow bone and inner corner of the eye with a frosty champaign shadow.
6 With a dark brown shadow and an angled brush line the outer half of the lower lashline. Bring this brown shadow into the crease and onto the outer V of the lid.
7 Apply lots of mascara to the upper lashes and a little to the bottom lashes on the outer corners.
8 Apply a pinky gloss and you're good to go!

Yellow Polish? Yes, Please!

I have been debating and debating with myself FORever about picking up the Chanel Mimosa Limited Edition Nail Varnish and last week when I finally decided YES I'm going to get this! It's gone! Sold out! Can't find it anywhere!
Maybe it's a sign... that I'm not supposed to spend $25 on a nail polish.

But it is the most perfect, buttery, light canary yellow so I went on a search for a dupe and came across Revlon's Top Speed Fast Dry Nail Enamel in 'Electric'. It's basically the exact same colour with the same amount of subtle sheen. I love it! If you would have asked me last year about wearing yellow nail polish I would have laughed in your face and now I don't think I'm going to be able to live without it this summer!

Without flash is definitely a much truer representation of the colour. But even still, it's paler and way prettier in person!

What do you guys think? Is yellow nail polish something you'll be rocking this summer?

Modern Pinup!

Here's a more modern take on the classic pinup look! Think sharp brows, sharp liner, and a sharp lip line!

I originally had black liner on the waterline but decided to take if off for the final look. For my girls who can't live without lining their waterline... this look is great that way too!

1 Smooth on primer and apply your foundation. Pat concealer under the eyes and on areas of concern.
2 Buff on bronzer high in the back of the cheeks, temples, hairline, and chin. Buff a bright pink blush onto the apples of the cheeks.
3 Strongly define the natural shape of your brows with a pencil. Then using a powder further define the shape, paying special attention to creating a bold arch and sharp edges.
4 To further define the edges of the brows trace along the bottom line with a light concealer and blend downward.
5 Dust a light champagne coloured shadow all over the lid from lashline to brow bone and lightly define the crease with a matte brown shadow (or use your bronzer).
6 Press a fine glitter all over the lid from the lashline to the brow bone.
7 Slowly and carefully draw in your eyeliner with a gel or liquid liner and create your flick. Make sure to tightline the upper lashes (inside the eye under the lashes) so that there are no gaps showing. For tips on how to perfect your eyeliner check out my Get Perfect Eyeliner... Everytime post!
8 Apply a light coat of mascara to the upper and lower lashes before applying your lashes tight to the upper lashline. Remember to wait 30 seconds for the glue to get tacky before placing the lashes. Try looking down into a mirror and using tweezers to apply your lashes. (I'll have a post with some tips for applying falsies in the future)!
9 Powder under the eyes and in the t-zone with a translucent powder.
10 Draw a fairly thick line around the lips with a red lip liner. Apply hot pink lipstick and a purpley pink glittery gloss on top! Having the lipliner slightly darker than the lip gives the lips lots of dimension!

I wish the glitter would have photographed better... it really sets this look apart! The glitter and pink toned lips make this classic look much more modern. Do you think you can have some fun with this makeup look? It works great with cute retro hair styles!

5 Frizz Fighting Tips For Unruly Summer Hair!

There is no better time than summer to let the natural texture of your hair run free! A carefree beachy look is always hot! Here's a few cool hair tips I've picked up that are going to be especially great for my girls who are having trouble styling their naturally wavy, curly, or kinky hair!

My first tip is to avoid aggressively rubbing your hair with a terry cloth material to towel dry. Instead squeeze and pat the hair from the ends up to the roots with a jersey knit t-shirt type of material. The water will absorb better and the frizzies will stay at bay!
Secondly, keep in mind that when choosing appropriate styling products your hairs thickness relates to each individual strand, and not how much hair you have. So if you have thicker, coarser hair you want to choose rich products like oils, creams, and butters... whereas if you have a more thin to medium hair type, opt for more light weight lotions, serums, and sprays.
One of my favourite things to do in the summer is soak up the sun... and what better opportunity for my third tip? A moisturizing hair treatment! Before I lay outside or head to the beach I always dampen my hair and apply a hydrating mask before throwing it up into a ponytail or bun. The heat from the sun really activates the product and the longer you leave it on the better! (But remember, avoid leaving masks and conditioners with protein on your hair too long. Protein is great for hair in short doses but if left on the hair too long can actually break down and damage the cuticle). My hair mask of choice lately has been the Bumble and Bumble Creme de Coco Masque which feels and smells amazing!
4 My fourth tip is to never take a brush through your waves or curls. This is a guaranteed way to get frizz. If you absolutely must comb through your hair make sure to use a wide tooth comb for more separation.
5 My fifth and final tip (for now) is to tame stubborn fly aways with clear mascara or brow gel! I love this trick because the product is lightweight with no colour, is small and easy to take on the go!

Dont forget to embrace your hair this summer and keep coming back to glossary for more fun tips and tricks!

Sunkissed in Pink!

Here's a super summery look inspired by Cameron Diaz! This look is super simple... think tight lined eyes, sun kissed glowing skin, and bright pink lips perfect for summer!

I'm willing to bet a nice deep navy liner in place of black would work great for this look! Also, I love Nars lipsticks and highly recommend checking out Lipstick in 'Schiap' and limited edition Pure Matte Lipstick in 'Carthage' if you have a light to medium skin tone, and Lipstick in 'Funny Face' if you have a medium to deep skin tone!

1 After smoothing on your primer (to ensure a long lasting makeup), apply your foundation all over and concealer under the eyes and on any other areas of concern. Set with a translucent powder. I've been using The Beauty Blender sponge to apply my foundation all week and I'm really loving it!
2 Sweep your bronzer through the back of the cheeks, temples and hairline... and lightly dust over the nose and chin for a sun kissed look. Apply a shimmering pink blush to the apples of the cheeks for a rosy glow.
3 Lightly sweep a neutral champaign shadow close to your skin colour all over the lid and along the lower lashline. This is what gives that naturally glossy look to the lids.
4 Smudge a medium deep brown toned shadow into the lashes on the outer corners of the eye.
5 With a black pencil, tight line the upper and lower lashes (inside of the eye) and make sure to wrap the liner in and around the inner corner of the eyes. If you skip the inner corners with your pencil the eyes will look incomplete.
6 Apply mascara liberally to upper lashes, and a little to the outer lower lashes.
7 Smooth on a bright pink lipstick and blot away the excess!

What kind of looks will you be sporting this summer? Don't forget, bright colours look fantastic against bronzed glowing skin!

Brown Bottom Smokey Eye

Here's a smokey look ala Kim Kardashian with black on the top and brown on the bottom... a fun way to wear shadow!

1 Apply foundation all over and concealer on any blemishes. Leave concealer under the eyes for later to clean up any dark eyeshadow that may fall.
2 With bronzer, sculpt the back of the cheeks, the temples, and hairline to warm up the complexion.
3 Pat an eyeshadow primer all over the lid and press a matte black shadow from lashline to crease. Blend the edges in the crease.
4 Further blend the edges by bringing a warm brown shadow into the crease. Bring this brown eyeshadow down along the lower lashes from outer corner to inner corner as well.
5 Highlight the brow bone with a matte skin toned colour. Remember from my Blending Edges post that this is a great trick to soften harsh edges that you're having a hard time blending out.
6 Line the waterline (inner rim of the eye) with a brown pencil and add lots of mascara to the top and bottom lashes! Feel free to add false lashes to really glam up this look!
7 With a fluffy brush, buff on a light concealer under the eyes to clean up any fallout and really brighten the face.
8 Lightly dust a translucent powder all over the face to set your makeup for long lasting results.
Softly line your lips with a neutral, more brown toned lip liner and apply a nude lipstick and gloss.

This look is fun and easy! Try this technique with lots of different colour combinations!

My May Favourites!

The month of May has just flown by... and of course I've fallen in love with some new great products I hope you'll love too!

Firstly, you should know that while I understand the importance of an eye cream, I've never been one disciplined enough to use one on a regular basis... until I tired Benefit's new 'It's Potent! Eye Cream'! I really love this stuff and even find myself excited to use it! It has such fun beachy packaging and smells great too. The rich cream feels comforting around the eye area and absorbs quickly! This is a great starter eye cream for anyone in their 20's or 30's as it will hydrate and brighten the eye area, but will also prevent fine lines and wrinkles!

My eye cream makes a great base for my next May favourite... the Givenchy Mr. Light Concealer Pen! I find myself trying all kinds of concealers and always end up going back to this one! The texture is amazing and it effectively reflects light to give flawless coverage while maintaining a lightweight look and feel. It's amazing for touchups, convenient to use on the go, and glides and blends onto the skin with ease. I wish this product wasn't so expensive because I find I go through it pretty quickly... I can only treat myself every so often... but I love it!

This month I've been all about a more neutral look and because I've been so on the go my Stila Eyeshadow Trio in 'Ethereal' has been my go to eyeshadow palette. The colours are super flattering on all skin tones and I love that I can get both a natural or more dramatic look whether I use one colour on it's own or all three at once. Stila eyeshadows are highly pigmented and easy to blend. A great size to quickly through in my bag, I'm loving this versatile super compact trio! Plus I'm a sucker for the name... which is just an added bonus!

And lastly, I've found myself alternating between these two glosses all month and have seriously worn nothing else. I love both of these colours! The first gloss is the Lorac Multiplex Gloss in '4D' which is a bright pink gloss with tons of high shine sparkle! These remind me a lot of the MAC Dazzleglass' but larger and a bit stickier. Even though it looks super bright, the colour is juicy and sheer, the sparkle is amazing, and the colour is super fun and flattering! The next gloss is a more natural colour by Bare Essentuals called '7 Layer Cake'. It's a light, frosty, nude pink that's non sticky, and smells yummy like vanilla cake or creme brulee. It's a the perfect colour for anyone who wants a great everyday gloss to polish off any look!

I hope you've found some great products that you loved this month... and that you're starting to have fun with some bright and bronzed summer colours!
