Makeup Tips for Glasses Wearers

I've been wearing my glasses a lot lately for one reason or another and thought that many people would really benefit from a fun post dedicated strictly to us visually impared!

Determining what style of eyeshadow you should wear really depends on your type of glasses.

If you are farsighted and your glasses tend to magnify your eyes, opt for darker, smokier looks which will make your eyes appear smaller. Experiment with matte shadows in deeper tones that will define your eyes and not amplify them. Feel free to play with colour in jewel tones like emeralds, navy's, and plums, and keep the colour close to the lash line. Tight line inside the eyes with dark kohl pencils.

If you are nearsighted and your glasses tend to hide your eyes and make them look smaller, choose light, bright shadows that will make your eyes appear larger. Experiment with eyeliner to define the eyes so that they don't get lost behind your lenses, and a light shimmery shadow on the inner corners of the eyes to open them up. Enjoy light iridescent colours like lavender, bone, and pale blues and greens. Use flesh toned pencils on the inside of the eye for a wide eyed effect.

No matter what your style of glasses, always remember to use a brightening concealer under the eyes in case of any shadows your frames may cast on the face. Always add definition to your lashes, and always have well groomed, well defined brows! Your eye brows frame your frames and are really important for glasses wearers.

Know that these are just guidelines, and that people that wear glasses can wear any eyeshadow look they want! Always have fun with your makeup and your glasses and play up those beautiful eyes!

Cute Doll Halloween Makeup

Say hello to another Halloween look inspired by a cute dolly!

1 Start by applying foundation all over, concealer in areas of concern, and setting with a translucent powder.
2 Apply a light blue shadow all over the lid and into the crease. Make sure to bring the colour up high enough to be seen when the eye is open. Bring this blue shadow tight against the outer corners of the lower lash lines.
3 Densely press a blue glitter all over the lid from the lash line to the crease. Soften the edge by blending through the crease with whatever blue shadow is left on our brush.
4 Apply a white eyeliner to the inner corners of the eye and press an iridescent duo chrome white/blue shadow on top.
5 Line the top lash line with a black liquid liner and apply a light coat of mascara.
6 Rim the inside of the eye with a light, flesh toned pencil for a wide eyed appearance.
7 Apply long wispy lashes to the upper lash line and shorter wispy half lashes to the outer corners of the lower lash line.
8 Create a 3D blush effect by applying a hot pink shadow in a round shape to the apples of the cheek and then a light frosty pink shadow around the edges. This will give a natural and soft gradation.
9 Use a brown eyeliner pencil to dot freckles of varying sizes onto the cheeks.
10 Finish with a bubble gum pink lip colour!

Monster Face Paint

Here's a Halloween face paint I did on myself last week! It's inspired by monsters and dinosaurs!

1 Using a white eyeliner plot your basic shape.
2 Sponge a yellow face paint onto the high points of the face (forehead, nose, and cheekbones) and a green face paint around the edges, sides of the nose, and around the eyes. Use a white face paint to fill in the talons/horns.
3 To even out the colour and add shading and depth, go over the face paint with matte eyeshadows in complimentary shades of green and yellow. I used a black shadow and a blending brush to further define around the horns, contours, and eye area, including bags under the eyes.
4 Use a black face paint to loosely outline the design. Use quick and fluid brush strokes to achieve clean lines. Define the brow bone, line the eyes, add gnarly nostrils, and add detail and interest with lines and dots.
5 Highlight and add further detail with a white paint.
6 If you choose to, you may now add a light foundation to the exposed skin.
7 Press an irridescent glitter on the tops of the cheekbones and on all of the horns. Be strategic with your glitter placement to compliment the makeup, not overwhelm it!
8 I finished with a yummy smelling lip balm to keep my lips looking hydrated and fresh!

It was a fun look to create and I had the pleasure of recreating it on my beautiful friend Chicara. Hope you guys like it!

Zombie Skull Mask

Here's a quick look at a zombie inspired Halloween mask I wore last week! Hope you guys like it!

1 Apply foundation all over and set with powder. Having a clean and flawless base really aids this makeup so that it doesn't end up looking muddy.
Start by using a white eyeliner to plot out your shape.
Lightly block out the brows using a glue stick or prosaid and brush a concealer over the top.
4 Using a filbert style brush and a grey eye shadow, place your brush down on the skin to create a rounded shape, and flick away to create a natural fade. Do this all the way around the edges in varying sizes and spacings creating a deconstructed scalloped edge.
Use the same grey shadow to shade around the eye area. Coming up high on the outer most corner of the brow, and low under the eye to create a hollowed look.
Use a black face paint to draw small flicks through the scallop shapes around the edges of the mask. Define the top of the eye shape you've created to exaggerate an angry brow, and roughly line the top of the eyes with a small flick.
7 Further define the round shapes of your mask by using a black shadow in the same way... placing the colour down and flicking outward. By using the black shadow after the face paint, it softens the lines but allows them to still peak through for added definition and detail. Use the black shadow to shade the eyelid as well.
8 Line the upper and lower waterlines with a black kohl pencil and hap-hazzardly coat the upper and lower lashes with mascara.
9 For a finishing touch, add some dark/dried blood under the eyes and on the bridge of the nose. Don't be excessive with blood as it is only meant to aid the makeup, not overwhelm it!
10 When I wore this out I added a vampy red lip for lots of sex appeal!

Nars Warhol Holiday 2012

"Andy Warhol realized art could take any form. Putting on your makeup is a kind of self-portrait." - Francoi Nars

The newest collection from Nars featuring limited edition Andy Warhol glosses, shadows, polishes and more has this Factory Girl dancing in her boots! It's so exciting to have two of my favourite people come together and make some of my favourite things.

Exclusively at Sephora until November, this collection features three gorgeous eyeshadow palettes inspired by Warhol's "Flowers" screen prints. All of the palettes in this collection have Andy Warhol's signature in silver inscribed on the outer packaging, and a famous Warhol quote on the mirror inside. I dont know if I'll ever bring myself to use it... but I couldn't resist picking up Flowers 3... a gorgeous combination of taupes and bronzes for all skin tones and eye colours!

"I aways say, one's company, two's a crowd, and three's a party." - Andy Warhol

The exclusive collection also houses the Larger Than Life Lip Gloss Coffret, taking inspiration from the famous Warhol "Soup Can"! I had to pick up this one because of the incredible value and the keep sake canister! It comes with 5 perfect and brand new lip gloss shades, including the cult favourite "Chelsea Girls", the popular nude lip lacquer.

"I've never met a person I couldn't call a beauty." - Andy Warhol

Also available in this collection are 5 new Nail Lacquers, 5 new Larger Than Life Lipglosses, 4 new Soft Touch Shadow Pencils, a limited edition Larger Than Life Eyepencil, a soft peach highlighting blush, the Debby Harry Eye and Cheek Palette, and two gift sets.

I'm a little dissapointed that the Warhol signature isn't on the lip gloss caps, or polishes or shadow pencils. It makes the products look as though they are just part of the regular line and not as special as they really are! I also find the Debby Harry Eye and Cheek Palette way too sparkly. To the point that even throughout the day it continues to fall all over your cheeks. For as excited as I was about this collection I definitely expected some things to be different. Either way... there are some key pieces definitely worth the splurge!

And keep your eyes pealed for the Holt Renfrew exclusive shadow palettes hitting stores in November with really unique prints from Warhol's "Self Portrait".

"I believe in low lights, and trick mirrors." - Andy Warhol

I'll definitely be having a look at this amazing set called "Factory Girl" with a new pure matte lipstick (these are so long lasting!), a black liquid liner,  Deep Throat/Amour blush duo, and Edie shadow! All in a super cute keepsake film reel! This one's a no brainer!

"All is pretty." - Andy Warhol

Goodies!

Just a quick post on a few products I've been enjoying!
I know I haven't been blogging very much lately.... hopefully with Halloween just around the corner and IMATS in a couple of months I'll have some cool looks to share with you guys.

Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation Love this stuff! It's very thin and lightweight, has quite a light to medium coverage, and a really nice natural glowing finish. I'm a firm believer in a very light coverage foundation that you can build or add concealer to to get a nice no makeup makeup look. It's great for all skin types and caters to a wide variety of skin tones.
Stila Lasting Perfection Concealer I've dug this up out of my makeup collection and am happy to have rediscovered it. This is a great concealer! Oil free, nice creamy texture, and good coverage! This concealer works great in a pinch mixed with primer or moisturizer as an all over foundation as well!
Nars Multiple in Cap Vert Multiples are lightweight creams that can be used on the eyes, cheeks, and lips. This particular one was part of the limited edition bronzers that were brought out maybe a year ago. I love cream products because they melt in and match skins texture so perfectly! Lately I've been a huge fan of layering this cream bronzer under my Guerlain Terricotta Bronzer for a really dimensional glow. Look for cream bronzer alternatives in brands like 2Faced, and Laura Mercier.
Tarina Tarrantino Eyeshadow in Butterfly Black My go to eye look lately has been a smudgy black liner on the outer most half of the lashline for some definition and added thickness to the lashes. The best and quickest way is with a small brush and a deep black matte shadow. This one is discontinued but I love it because it's SO black and dense with incredible payoff! You can find great alternatives in Laura Mercier's Noir (Holts/online exclusive) and Urban Decays Blackout.
Ole Henrikson Ultimate Lift Eye Gel Roll On I really love the cool and refreshing feeling that really lasts when I use this product. I use it in the morning under makeup and at night after scrubbing off makeup when I find it very soothing. I'm a lazy daisy and really appreciate the roll on aspect and love that it's easy age prevention.
Korres Advanced Brightening Sleeping Facial Besides the fact that this smells amazing!!! It actually shows results! I genuinely notice a brighter complexion in the morning, and it feels so cushiony soft on my skin. It is packed full of good for you ingredients like jojoba, rose water, vitamin C, aloe, soybean, vitamin E, rosemary... wow! These oils are noncomedogenic so don't be scared combo skins!
Dsquared2 She Wood Golden Light Perfume I absolutely love this fragrance! It's fresh, floral, and woody with notes of orange blossom, musk, and cedar. It reminds me of sunscreen, the beach, and being in Florida when I was a kid.

My Favourite Summer Products!

Ahhhh summertime! I love a simple and fresh look for summer with really light makeup. I've been loving so many products lately that I think you guys will love too!

Caudalie Grape Water A few daily spritzes of this leaves my skin super refreshed, super soothed, and super hydrated! The only ingredients are grape fruit water and grape fruit juice... yum!
Dior One Essential Serum I've been incredibly impressed with this product for seriously reducing the inflamation and size of my breakouts. It feels and smells amazing (as all Dior products do) and gently exfoliates while eliminating toxins in the skin and enhancing the performance of all your other skincare products. It's pricey... but it works.
Origins VitaZing Energy Boosting Moisturizer SPF 15 This is my favourite multitasker of the summer! It works perfectly to protect and refresh the skin with lots of antioxidants and delivers the perfect amount of hydration. I love the self adjusting tint and light fragrance. It's barely-there coverage teams up perfectly with a touch of concealer here and there and you're good to go!
Nars Sheer Glow Foundation I just can't find anything I like better than this absolutely amazing foundation. Perfect amount of coverage, gorgeous natural finish, and a lightweight texture... What more could you want!?
Guerlain Terracotta Bronzing Powder I get tons of compliments when I wear this bronzer. It's moisturizing, long lasting, has the perfect glow and easily doubles as a blush when applied liberally to the cheeks. The colours are designed to mimic a natural tan and give the perfect sun kissed look!
Benefit Badgal Lash Say hello to long, thick, feathery, dark kohl lashes with this extremely buildable and drama enhancing mascara! It's an old favourite that I've had a hard time living with out these last few weeks!
Jack Black Lip Balm I recently pick up one of these bad boys in Lemon and fell in love! It's more like lemon cake and gives a great hydrated look thats natural and not glossy.
Revlon Lip Butter in Cotton Candy When I need that extra something something to polish off a look without the fussiness of a lipstick and stickiness of a gloss this is my go to! It's plenty hydrating and is such a flattering pink-peach shade that goes with everything!
OPI Nail Polish in Pink Friday There's nothing like a pretty bubblegum pink nail colour in the summer! It compliments a tan and all those easy breezy summer outfits.
Real Techniques Brushes Specifically the buffing, blush, and domed shadow brushes. These brushes apply product beautifully and maintain their shape so well! They're a comfortable fit in the hand and come with great cases that work perfectly for travel! Pick them up if you can... they're wonderful!

Tangerine Tango Smoke!

Here's a great smokey eye look inspired by Tangerine Tango that's perfect for spring and summer evenings!
For those of us with blue eyes, this orange trend is perfect because it really makes blues pop!

1 Apply foundation all over and concealer in areas of concern. Set with a translucent powder.
2 Blend bronzer through the backs of the cheeks, and around the hair and jawline. Apply a peach-bronze blush to compliment the look onto the cheeks.
3 Pat eyeshadow primer all over the lid before pressing a burnt orange pigment from lash line to crease on the first two thirds of the lid. Blend your edges.
4 Press a black eyeshadow onto the outer most third of the lid and blend. Continue to apply the shadow and blend until you have a good level of intensity and a natural gradation of colour.
5 Line the upper and lower waterlines (inside of the eye) and smudge into the lower lashes on the outer corners.
6 Bring your black shadow on the outer corners of the lower lashes to give a smouldered and smokey look. Pack your burnt orange pigment onto the inner half of the lower lash line and lightly blend across the black.
7 Blend a light champaign shadow through the brow bone and onto the inner corners of the eye for a barely there highlighted look!
Apply lots of mascara to the upper and lower lashes.
Finish with lip balm to hydrate and naturally plump!

March Favourites!

Firstly, I've been all over the Cover FX Skin Prep Nourishing Foundation Primer + Anti-Aging Serum these last two months to the point where I've basically finished my bottle! Love that this is a cosmetic with skin care benefits and love the way it glides onto the skin! It contains radiant boosting Q10, skin firming peptides, and protective and repairetive omega-3. My skin is naturally pretty dehydrated and in the winter months I struggle with a bit of a flaky texture and this bad boy really helps my foundation go on a whole lot smoother.

If you're a self proclaimed self tanner freak then you'll definitely know about this next product... St. Tropez Tan Applicator Mitt. Say goodbye to orange hands and streaky skin forever! This is the best thing to happen to self tanning! I would either have splotchy hands or a line around my wrist where the self tanner ended when I used to either work with my hands or awkward rubber gloves, but with the mitt self tanning is faster, easier, and really hard to mess up! I'm a huge fan of the St. Tropez Bronzing Mousse but this mitt literally makes any self tanning experience so much better! Highly recommended! It's life changing.

I've been wearing my Tarina Tarantino Blush in Feather almost everyday this past month! It's such a beautiful light peachy pink colour with a subtle hint of irridescents that gives such a pretty glow! It's sold individually but I actually have it in this super cute four pan dollskin blush palette from Tarina and love it! These blushes are HD formulated for smooth texture, even application, and great colour balance!

Triadic Tangerine Tango!

At a training conference I recently attended we talked a lot about the colour wheel and different colour schemes.
Here's a Pantone Universe colour of the year 'Tangerine Tango' inspired shadow look using a triadic colour scheme!

1 Apply foundation all over and concealer in areas of the concern and set with a translucent powder.
2 Buff bronzer through the backs of cheeks, temples and hairline, and apply a pinky blush further back on the cheeks.
3 Pat an eyeshadow primer all over the lid before smoothing on a purple cream base from lash line to crease. The purple cream will help our shadows come out more vibrantly!
4 Blend a bright purple shadow high through the crease and onto the entire lid concentrating the colour on both the outer and inner corners.
5 Press a bright tangerine pigment onto the centre of the lid directly above the iris and gently blend the edges.
6 Gently blend a green eyeshadow alone the lower lash line and lightly blend the colour up and out to meet the purple shadow on the outside corner of the eye. This will help to lift the eye and give the shadow a slight cat like shape!
7 Rim the upper and lower waterlines (inside of the eye). Remember to wrap around the inner corners of the eyes and smudge a little into the lower lashes/lash line on the outer corners of the eyes. Apply lots of mascara!
8 Finish the look with a complimentary light nude pink gloss or tinted lip balm!

Bronze Smokey Eye ala Kim K

I've sucked at posting lately... yikes! This past month and a half have been pretty busy for me so I've been taking advantage of my spare time by laying in bed and watching movies, ha ha.
But I've crawled out long enough recently to create a few looks that I have coming up for the next few weeks so stay tuned!

Here's a really simple and pretty golden smokey eye that works great on all skin tones, eye shapes, and eye colours... enjoy!

1 Apply foundation all over and concealer in areas of concern. Set with a translucent powder.
2 Buff bronzer through the backs of the cheeks, onto the temples and around the hair and jaw line for a natural sun kissed look. Apply a peachy blush to the cheeks.
3 Pat and eyeshadow primer all over the lid to enhance colours and wear.
4 Blend a light gold shadow onto the inner three fourths of the lid from the lash line, fading out into the crease.
5 Apply a black eyeshadow onto the outer third of the lid and then blend it out slightly past the crease for a smokey effect. Bring this black shadow down along the outer half of the lower lash line.
6 Lightly blend a matte skin toned shade around all of your edges with a fluffy brush to help further defuse your edges for a perfectly blended, smoked out finish!
7 Line the upper and lower waterline (inside of the eye) with a black pencil, making sure to wrap around the inner corners and to get into any gaps between the lashes.
8 Apply a few generous coats of mascara to both the top and bottom lashes.

Nars Spring 2012 Inspired Look

Here's a look inspired by Nars' Spring 2012 Collection as promised! I love how the smokey and dimensional navy eyeliner looks! You can choose to wear it with bold berry lips like in the advert or balance it for a more wearable look with a neutral lip colour! Hope you guys like it!

1 Apply foundation all over and concealer in areas of concern. Set with a translucent powder.
2 Brush bronzer back through the cheeks, around the hairline, and a touch to the centre of the face to warm up the complexion and contour. Apply blush to the apples of the cheeks and an illuminator all over the cheeks and cheekbone for a natural glow.
3 Apply a nude shadow similar to your skin tone all over the lid as a base.
4 Use your cream product to sketch out a winged eyeliner. This will act as a great base for a strong colour with lots of staying power.
5 Press your navy eyeshadow directly on top of your eyeliner, avoiding the tip of the wing. Use a blending brush to soften the liner and make it soft and smokey looking.
6 Use a black cream liner to tight line the upper lashes, wrapping around into the inner corners of the eye. Smudge this black liner across the top of the upper lashes as well.
7 Apply a light coat of dramatic mascara to the upper and lower lashes.
8 Lightly highlight the inner corners of the eyes and under the brows.
9 Apply a blue based berry red lipstick to the lips for lots of drama, or keep it natural with a light shimmery pink lip balm!

Trend: Navy Peepers

I smell a pretty big spring trend... navy! I've been semi-obsessed with this gorgeous deep blue hue for the last couple of weeks and have been pleasantly surprised to see it popping up in the new spring collections of some of my favourite brands!

The amazing thing about navy is that it's extremely flattering on every skin tone, makes the whites of your eyes brighter so that your eyes really pop, and is a completely appropriate and complimentary way of wearing a bold colour without feeling like it's "too much".

Stila has recently introduced their new Stila Smudge Crayon's with the most perfect shade of deep navy blue that blends out gorgeously into a really dimensional colour! Say hello to the shining star for this spring trend, 'Midnight Blue'. The gel based formula is super pigmented and stays in place extremely well. These crayons make amazing eyeliners and are great as a base for that smokey evening look on steamy spring and summer nights!

The new Nars graphics for their Spring 2012 collection is all about this trend and it's absolutely stunning! (In fact, expect a post on an inspired look soon!). The way they've paired the navy liner, glowing skin, and super raspberry blue toned lipstick is beautiful and right up my ally!

January Favourites!

Hello lovelies! I have been slacking this month, but promise to get it together this February with a couple new fun and flirty posts coming up!
In the mean time, here are some of the products that I have been loving since the new year!

I have been smothering my lips with the Caudalie Lip Conditioner this entire month and it's almost completely gone! It is so comforting on the lips and feels super nourishing and hydrating. With such awesome natural ingredients like sunflower, apricot and grapeseed oil, shea butter, rice bran, and vitamin E, you know you're in for a treat! It has a slight natural vanilla scent and taste which I didn't like at first but have come to really enjoy! (Dare I say I even like this more than Fresh's Sugar Lip Treatments!?)

I also really love the Burberry Volumising Lash Enhancer Mascara! I have had more compliments on my lashes this month (are those your real lashes?) than ever before! I get lashes that are full, long, dramatic and wispy with little to no clumping. This mascara even has ingredients in it that help to strengthen the lashes and protects them from humidity, rain, and heat. It lasts all day but is easily removed at the end of the night! Love love love love love!

Now let's hear it for Nars blushes! Talk about perfect shades and perfect pigments for every skin tone! I've been sporting Nars Blush in Deep Throat all month long and loving every minute of it! It's a gorgeous warm baby pink with a slight silver and gold iridescents that aids in a gorgeous natural glow. This is a staple in my beauty collection! Great for light to medium deep skin tones.

I couldn't bring myself to repurchase my $30 Dior brow pencil this month so I opted for something a lot more affordable and fell head over heels for the Sephora Collection Retractable Brow Pencil Waterproof! The colour I've been using is Midnight Brown and I love it because it reads super ashy. That being said, though, I'll probably try a slightly lighter shade when I definitely repurchase! P. S. Whoever came up with retractable pencils.... thankyou thankyou thankyou! You've made this lazy girls day of sharpening pencils fade happily into the distance.

Hope you've all had a great start to the new year! And that you're keeping up with your new years beauty resolutions!

Graphic in Green!

Here's a look I came up with while having some fun with products this weekend! Greens my favourite colour and I don't think I've ever done a green look before! So here we are... hope you guys enjoy it!

1 Apply foundation all over and concealer in areas of concern. Set with a translucent powder
2 Buff bronzer through the backs of cheeks, temples and hairline and apply a pink pop of blush high on the backs of the cheekbones.
3 Use a cream eyeshadow all over the lid from lash line to just above the crease and leave the edges sharp. This creamy base will not only help our shadow stay in place, it will increase the bold pigment we place on top!
4 Press a green eyeshadow directly on top of the creamy base for strong saturated colour.
5 Use a cream eyeliner to line your upper lash line and trace through the crease around the shape you created with your shadow. Take the time to perfect your lines.
6 Use your cream eyeliner to draw a straight line under the lower lashes winged it out on both ends and keeping the gaps open on both the inner and outer corners.
7 Blend the bottom edges of your black eyeliner down and out with a black eyeshadow. Blend your original green shadow along the edge of the lower liner as well.
8 Use a glitter adhesive to apply a light green glitter to the centre of the eye, and a darker green glitter on the outer and inner thirds of the eye.
9 Blend a white cream shadow under the brow, on the inner corners of the eye, and to sharpen the edges of your flicks on the outer corners. Apply this to the waterline to further open the eyes.
10 Apply a light coat of mascara and long wispy lashes.
11 Lightly coat the lips with a neutral lip gloss!
